AM calls for business rate answers

Paul_Davies100Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is keeping the pressure on the Welsh Assembly Government to reveal its plans for helping businesses facing huge rate increases.

Mr Davies tackled local government minister Brian Gibbons on the issue in the Senedd last week.

“I am looking for a direct answer as to when they will tell us what solutions they have come up with to help these businesses who are facing huge increases in their rates,” he said.

“We know that in England the business relief threshold has been raised and in Northern Ireland the rates revaluation has been postponed all together.

“But businesses in Wales are facing a stony silence when it comes to what help the Welsh Assembly Government is proposing.

“All that Mr Gibbons was able to tell me, once again, was that he and his team are “working on an announcement.” He cannot even reveal when that announcement will be made.

“These rates have to be paid from April 1 so we are fast running out of time.”
