AM Supports Red Meat Charter

Nick_RamsayMonmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is urging constituents to support their local butchers following the launch last week of the Welsh Conservatives Charter for Red Meat.

The Charter sets out innovative proposals for the sustainability of the red meat industry in Wales, including a call for a voluntary code of practice for supermarkets to dedicate floor space for Welsh beef and lamb.

Speaking today (Wednesday 23), Mr Ramsay said: “I fully support this Charter – our red meat industry is vital to the Welsh economy with international sales of Welsh red meat contributing in excess of £224 million to the country’s economy last year.

“The Charter also continues the Welsh Conservatives vision for local produce, promoting local foods, supporting food tourism and encouraging us to  eat food that’s in season.

“We are extremely fortunate to have so many top quality butchers and food producers in Monmouthshire. Let’s do all we can to support them by buying locally and stocking up on Welsh beef and lamb.”
