Appeal following attempted abduction

Police are appealing for information after a man attempted to abduct a young woman in her late teens at a bus stop near Wrexham.

The incident happened at around 8.15am on Thursday September 23 at a bus stop in Church Street, Rhostyllen when the driver of a dark blue Volvo 240 style estate car stopped and asked her for directions.

The man switched the engine off, got out of the car and adjusted the front wipers before approaching the teenager.

He offered her a lift, which she declined a number of times before he attempted to force her into his car. She managed to break free and escaped unhurt.

The suspect is believed to have driven off towards Wrexham Road.

The man is described as white, in his late 30’s to early 40’s; 5ft 8-5ft 9 tall, of stocky build, with short brown hair. He was wearing a black jacket and dark bottoms.

The car’s bonnet is described as slightly darker than the rest of the car.

DS Eleri Deverelll from Wrexham CID said: “This is an extremely unusual and rare incident. North Wales Police are committed to investigating this offence, and I would urge anyone with any information about this male to contact Wrexham CID.”
