Burns: Accountability & Responsibility – Your Money

The Welsh Assembly Government is elected by the people of Wales to run our nation. As part of that process, they are held accountable for their decisions and laws by the opposition parties and general public, to ensure they are delivering to us, the public, what they have promised.

Part of this process within law, is to be able to ask for FOI (Freedom Of Information) requests and have questions answered within government.

After yet another FOI request by Angela Burns South Pembrokeshire’s Assembly Member was turned down and Mrs Burns commented on the lack of transparency and answers from the Welsh Assembly Government;

“It is woeful and unreasonable that the WAG should either withhold or decline to answer questions. Questions on the NHS, affecting all of us such as; the amount of money spent on care for dementia-related illnesses and the amount of money spent per patient on cancer care, stroke care, heart disease and multiple sclerosis, or how many consultants there are available in different Local Health Boards so we can see where people can go for treatment, instead of having to wait for months in their own area.

“Additionally a collection of data that showed huge increases in NHS waiting lists was conveniently stopped last year. We saw waiting times for first in-patient treatment increase by 4,598 per cent between March 2009 and January 2010”.

“More than 50 written questions on the NHS – tabled by the Welsh Conservatives over the last year – have not been answered.

“Surely the people of Pembrokeshire should be better served for their taxes?”
