Carers often miss out on their benefits

images_011209142005People living in the Caerphilly county borough who care for loved ones may be missing out on vital financial and practical support because they do not realise that they are carers.

A special information and advice session for carers took place yesterday at Penallta Rugby Club, Caerphilly Road, Ystrad Mynach (the former CCBC education offices).

A ‘carer’ is classed as someone who provides invaluable, regular and unpaid help to a loved one who is elderly, ill or disabled and cannot manage without support. Anyone can be a carer – they can be male, female, young or old.

Many people who look after family members or friends are happy to do so. But sometimes carers themselves need help and support to continue providing such invaluable care.
