CEO to Chair Workforce Debate in Wrexham

Peter CheeseThe head of the UK’s professional body for HR is to chair a major debate on the challenges and opportunities posed by skills gaps, an aging workforce and globalisation of the workforce.

Peter Cheese, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), will be lead speaker at a ‘Future of HR’ event at Glyndŵr University on Monday June 1 from 6pm to 8pm.

Managing change and the impact of flexible working patterns on HR professionals are also on the agenda for discussion at the free debate.

The panel line-up will be completed by Perry Timms, director of People and Transformational HR, Carrie Foster, programme leader for Glyndŵr University’s Human Resources Management degree, and employment law specialist Mark Leach, partner at Weightmans LLP.

As well as being chief executive of the CIPD, Peter Cheese is a leading speaker and writer in his field and was voted as the UK’s most influential thinker in HR in 2013 by HR Magazine.

Laura Gough, business development executive at Glyndŵr University, said: “This is a rare opportunity for the region’s HR professionals to hear from the leader of their professional body.

“Peter’s insight into issues which will affect everyone working in HR will I’m sure spark some healthy debate and we’re delighted to have him on board.

“His knowledge will be complemented by the expertise of our other panel members, who have a broad range of experience within HR, education and small, medium and large enterprises.”

The event is part of Glyndŵr University’s inbusiness programme, designed to bring academia closer to and more beneficial to industry than ever before.

This encompasses a commitment to offering industry-led degrees, such as its MA HRM degree which is accredited by the CIPD, as well as an annual calendar of talks, debates and networking events which bring the business community together in North Wales.

The event is supported by Weightmans LLP and the CIPD, which has more than 135,000 members worldwide.

The ‘Future of HR’ debate takes place at the Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndŵr University, Wrexham, on Monday June 1 from 6pm to 8pm.

There is no charge for entry but attendees should register in advance at Eventbrite.
