Clubs are Urged to have their say on Future of Cricket

Cricket WalesCricketers throughout Wales are being urged to have their say about the game in a major survey, which could win prizes for them and their club.

The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) National Playing Survey closes in mid-July, and Cricket Wales is urging players and clubs to respond promptly at www.ecb.co.uk/playingsurvey2014.

“We’ve had a great response to the survey so far, but are keen to get more,” said Cricket Wales insight and innovation officer Estyn Jones. “The survey is easy to complete online, and it gives us vital information about attitudes to the sport – what’s good or bad – which will help to shape its future.”

Last year’s survey showed that most respondents were satisfied with the game, but there was a problem with retaining players aged 14-25. Cricket Wales is aiming for a much larger response this year to provide more accurate data.

Thanks to support from Glamorgan CCC, the club with the most responses will win 15 tickets for Glamorgan’s NatWest T20 Blast game against Gloucestershire on July 25, with a VIP welcome and a signed bat presented on the night.

For the three runner-up clubs, there will be 10 tickets each to the same game, and for individuals there will be a draw for five pairs of tickets to the England vs India Royal London One-Day International at the SWALEC Stadium in August.

In addition, the ECB is offering shirts, signed bats and England match tickets.

Cricket Wales is the national governing body for junior and recreational senior cricket in Wales. It works closely with Glamorgan County Cricket Club, which governs the men’s professional game. For information visit www.cricketwales.org.uk.
