Cuts are coming, so have your say on the services that count

Residents in Torfaen are being asked ‘What Matters to You?’ in one of the widest engagement campaigns undertaken by the council as it starts preparing its key priorities for the next five years.

With the current economic climate placing increasing pressure on public finances, the council wants to ensure that its resources are being committed to improving the services that matter most to residents.

The What Matters to You campaign is being launched in April and residents will have a range of channels open to tell the council about the issues they want to see the authority focusing on.

This month, the council’s newspaper Torfaen Talks, will be delivered to every home in the borough, containing a survey for residents to return.

There will be What Matters to You events at Asda, Tesco, and shopping centres around the borough during the coming weeks and a series of meetings for specific groups.

There are a number of other channels available for residents to have their say

The campaign will run throughout April and the responses received will help shape the council’s new Corporate Plan which will give the authority a clear direction of travel for the next five years with agreed priorities that reflect the views of Torfaen residents.

Councillor Bob Wellington, leader of the council, said: “There’s no doubt that public finances are going to be squeezed over the next few years which makes it really important that we target our resources towards the areas that matter the most to our residents.

“Tough decisions will be unavoidable, so it is vital that everyone takes this opportunity to have their say and enable the council to get a clear understanding of what matters to you.

“What you tell us will help shape the future direction of local government so that together, we can create a clear vision of how to make Torfaen a better place to live, work and visit.”
