Eisteddfod boost for local businesses?

Local businesses could benefit from one of Wales’ greatest cultural events when it comes to Wrexham next year.

The town will host the National Eisteddfod in 2011 and organisers will soon begin awarding contracts for all kinds of services, expertise and products needed to set-up and run the event.

Local firms will be encouraged to compete for the work and, to help kick things off, Wrexham Council’s business enterprise team is organising a ‘meet the buyer’ workshop, which will be funded through the Welsh Assembly Government Supplier Development Service.

Although there’s no guarantee how many will be awarded to local firms, event organisers are committed to making sure Wrexham businesses can compete for work on the same terms as everyone else.

Cllr Bob Dutton, deputy leader of the Council, said: ‘The National Eisteddfod is a huge event that requires a vast amount of planning, and organisers will begin awarding contracts later this year.

‘Encouraging local firms to compete for the work is one way we can help Wrexham get the most out of this prestigious event.‘
