Fatal Road Traffic Collision Westbound M4 motorway between Jct 35 Pencoed and Jct 36 Sarn

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following a Fatal Road Traffic collision that occurred at approximately 7:25pm on Monday 25th April 2011 on the westbound carriageway of the M4 motorway between junction 35 Pencoed and junction 36 Sarn, Bridgend.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision, a white Fiat camper van, a red and grey Volvo articulated tanker vehicle and a white, green and red Isuzu recovery vehicle.

As a result of the collision a 38 year male sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene. A police family liaison officer has been appointed and is supporting his next of kin and the coroner has been informed. The driver of the tanker vehicle is currently receiving treatment at the Princess of Wales Hospital Bridgend. The driver and passenger of the camper van were uninjured.

South Wales Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them. The road was busy at the time of the collision. The Police would like to speak to any person who witnessed the collision or who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicles being driven prior to the collision and who have not yet given their details.

The road was closed for approximately five hours while police carried out a forensic collision investigation, initial investigations and recovered the vehicles. South Wales Police would like to thank the people affected by the closure for their patients and understanding.
