First Care Ambassadors trained in North Wales

A new Ambassador scheme to help raise the profile of careers in social care has been launched by the four Social Care Partnerships across Wales.

The North Wales Social Care in Partnership (SCiP) is a regional partnership which is supported by Denbighshire and made up of many external partners such as Care Council for Wales, Job Centre Plus, Careers Wales, Colleges, local authority training manager and representatives from the voluntary and independent sectors. SCiP North Wales currently has over 1,000 members all interested in workforce development.

SCiP is the first in Wales to have recruited Care Ambassadors who will be able to advise people on careers in social care.

The Care Ambassadors are all social care workers at different levels of their careers and will give talks to students in schools and colleges that offer health and social care qualifications. They will also identify how to reach other people who may be unemployed and haven’t previously thought about a career in social care.

The 20 Ambassadors for North Wales were trained by local training company PLATO, from Wrexham. This project is giving the Care Ambassadors a fantastic opportunity to share their knowledge and skills with other people, and could also provide an excellent career development opportunity.

The Care Ambassadors programme was created by Skills for Care in England, and the Social Care Regional Partnerships will be moving this forward in Wales with financial assistance from the Care Council. The programme will run until March 2011.

SCiP is always on the lookout for more ambassadors to share their stories. For more information on how you can apply, please contact Clare Hughes on 01745 818950 or email [email protected]
