Warren Gatland believes Wales can repeat their success of 2008 when he takes his side to face England at Twickenham next Saturday.
The stunning second-half comeback was Wales’ first victory in 20 years at HQ. And the Wales head coach insists his men are good enough to achieve the same standard which was set in his first match in charge two years ago.
Gatland said: “We have two sides who are going to be desperate to win and we both know how important a good start in the championship is going to be.
“It’s a great game for us to start with and I just hope it will be the catalyst it was for us two years ago. Winning at Twickenham gave us the confidence and momentum for the rest of the championship.”
Wales suffered a heavy home defeat to Australia in their last outing in November. But Gatland believes his side will bounce back in emphatic style when they travel to London. Gatland added: Both teams are very similar – whoever wins will gain a lot of confidence.
“But we are going up there with the confidence and belief that, if we play well enough, we are good enough to win. It’s going to be a tough, physical game. They have tough, physical forwards as well. We have got to work pretty hard as a squad and get prepared for the next couple of weeks.”
