Carl Sargeant
Carl Sargeant (born 1968, St Asaph, Wales) is a Welsh Labour Party politician and a member of the National Assembly for Wales for the Alyn and Deeside constituency.

Background
Sargeant worked as a Process Operator with a chemical company and quality environmental auditor. Governor of Deeside College and of a local primary school and is also an industrial trained fire fighter.

Political career
He was first elected in the National Assembly for Wales election of 2003, succeeding Tom Middlehurst who stood down.

In the Third Assembly he was appointed Chief Whip of the Labour Group and a Deputy Welsh Minister for Assembly Business in the Welsh Assembly Government (May 31, 2007). He retained the position of Labour Chief Whip when the coalition government of Labour and Plaid Cymru was announced on July 19. Although not a member of the Welsh Assembly Government, he will attend Cabinet.
