Trefforest, also known as and spelt Treforest, is a small village to the south-east of Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales.
The University of Glamorgan is located in Trefforest. It is also the birthplace of singer and 1960s and 1970s sex symbol, Tom Jones, who was born in at 57, Kingsland Terrace in the village.
The village has one railway station, Trefforest. (Trefforest Estate is in The Willowford area between Ton-Teg and Nantgarw). The station is located on the Merthyr and Rhondda lines.
Trefforest is very much a student village and during the summer months and Christmas holiday time resembles very much a ghost town, however during term time a steady stream of students can be seen and heard to be wandering the streets, pubs and takeaways.
Torchwood and the popular BBC program Doctor Who is also filmed in an old factory in Trefforest. However its official whereabouts are unknown. Many believe it to be filmed near one of the petrol stations.
