Industrial Action in Cardiff 10 July 2014

Cardiff Logo smallA number of public sector unions have elected to take strike action today (Thursday July 10). This will impact on some of City of Cardiff Council services.
 
Services affected include:

  •     Waste and Recycling
  •     Schools
  •     Leisure Centres
  •     Play centres
  •     Libraries
  •     Parks
  •     Council Buildings
  •     Children’s Services
  •     Health and Social Care Services

The Butetown Tunnel will be closed from 10pm Wednesday 9th to 2am Friday 11th.

Cardiff Dogs Home will be closed to the public.

Waste and Recycling
Household collections
Wards affected are as follows:

  •     Adamsdown
  •     Rumney
  •     Splott
  •     Pontprennau/Old St Mellons
  •     Trowbridge
  •     Llanrumney

Waste collection teams will prioritise the following types of waste:

  •     Food waste
  •     Hygiene Waste
  •     Black bags
  •     Black bins

Green bags will not be collected on Thursday 10th July. Please put them out for collection the following week 17th July.

Garden waste will not be collected on Thursday 10th. Please put it out for collection the following fortnight 24th July.

Commercial collections
Collections are planned to take place as normal throughout the day.

Recycling centres
All household and commercials waste recycling centres will be closed.

Street Cleansing
Shop fronts and high footfall areas will be prioritised. On Friday 11th July teams will focus on areas affected due to the strike action.

Leisure Centres
The following centres will be closed to the public:

  •     Pentwyn Leisure Centre
  •     Llanishen Leisure Centre
  •     STAR Centre
  •     Penylan Library and Community Centre

The following centres will have reduced opening hours and reduced programmes:

  •     Fairwater Leisure Centre
  •     Western Leisure Centre

Please call ahead to check with the centre to avoid disappointment.

Cardiff Riding School will be open from 9am-5.30pm

Play Centres
The following play centres will be closed to the public:

  •     Ely
  •     Adamsdown
  •     Llanedeyrn

Libraries
The following libraries will be closed to the public:

  •     Cathays
  •     Fairwater
  •     Grangetown
  •     Penylan
  •     Rhiwbina
  •     Roath
  •     Rumney
  •     Star

Please note that some libraries are usually closed on Thursdays.

You can call ahead to check with the library to avoid disappointment.

Parks
The following parks will be closed to the public:

  •     Victoria Park
  •     Roath Park
  •     Bute Park
  •     Thompsons Park
  •     Parc Cefn Onn

Cricket and Baseball fixtures will not take place.

Council Buildings
There will be no public access to:

  •     City Hall
  •     County Hall
  •     Global Link
  •     Willcox House

Children’s Services
All services will be operating at a reduced level but all emergency calls or urgent safeguarding concerns will be dealt with immediately on a business as normal basis by the Children’s Access Point at Global Link on 029 2053 6490.

Health and Social Care Services

Services likely to be impacted or not open:

Learning Disability Day Services – alternative arrangements are being made for individuals who do not have an alternative form of emergency support

Services unlikely to be unaffected by strike action:

  •     Joint Equipment Service
  •     POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults Team)
  •     Day Services
  •     Business Support
