Industry Forum draws Wrexham Glyndwr University closer to North Wales Employers

9P4A3342Wrexham Glyndwr University’s place in the top ten UK universities for social mobility shows its unwavering commitment to “changing people’s lives.”

Speaking at an Industry Forum at the North Wales university, Academic Head for Applied Science, Computing and Engineering, Phil Storrow, said the institution would continue to play a key role in helping the region’s economy to grow.

The Wrexham University is number one in Wales and joint seventh in the UK in the Social Mobility Graduate Index, an indicator of the achievements by universities for helping students from poorer families into professional jobs.

Phil said: “Our standing for social mobility shows that we do what we set out to do, which is changing people’s lives.

“Wrexham Glyndwr University is an applied university – we offer career-focused education which is all geared towards helping our students to find employment when they graduate.”

The Industry Forum for the School of Applied Science, Computing and Engineering welcomed employees of local and regional businesses, helping to strengthen the university’s links with industry.

As well as providing updates on new courses, the event marked an opportunity for employers to discuss with the university areas for future curriculum development – helping to provide students with exactly the kind of skills employers are looking for.

Guest speaker Clive Barnard, senior business advisor from Business Wales, provided updates on funding available for businesses to work with universities.

There was also an introduction from Dr Aulay Mackenzie Pro Vice-Chancellor, Partnerships – Home and International, who outlined his ambitions to bolster business relations, grow educational partnerships, expand international recruitment and bring employers together.

Dr Mackenzie said: “Wrexham Glyndwr University has a great tradition of working with industry and if we can continue to build on this by strengthening relations with employers it will enhance our student experience enormously.”
