Millar: Transparency needed over Council salaries

Commenting on figures revealing that 51 council workers in Wales took home pay packets of more than £100,000 in 2008-09, Shadow Local Government Minister, Darren Millar AM said:

“With council workers facing a pay freeze, local authority budgets under growing pressure, and frontline services facing cuts, it is important senior staff set a good example and exercise pay restraint themselves.

“These figures also highlight a significant number of senior council staff are earning more than the First Minister which is simply unacceptable.

“There is no doubt that ten years of Labour mismanagement of the economy has left local authorities in Wales in the face of difficult spending decisions but we must not forget the need for transparency and restraint.”
