A MS sufferer who struggles to walk 500 meters due to his multiple sclerosis is taking on the challenge of his life by cycling more than 2,200km from North Wales to the South of France.

Justin Kendall, Sioned Kendall and Martin Hill will ride from the Pen-y-Gwyrd Hotel in North Wales to the Pyrenees to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Trust.

Justin always loved riding bikes and used to be very active, but a few years ago he was diagnosed with MS and now illness limits him a lot. He can’t walk for long, he can’t concentrate enough to read, and he can’t run anymore, but amazingly, he can still ride a bike.

The team’s taste for adventure began at the Pen-Y-Gwryd Hotel, which is a long established traditional British mountaineer’s and adventurer’s hotel in Snowdonia, North Wales on the 2 July, setting off for the ride of a lifetime.

The cycle ride will cover an exhausting 2,200km over the course of 5 weeks. Justin will be cycling together with his daughter, Sioned and friend Martin along with a well equipped support team.

The team were in Cardiff on a ‘rest day’ on Tuesday 5 July and stopped by to meet the MS team at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).

Lucy Coates, MS Data Manager at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “It was great that the riders paid a visit to UHW to meet our MS team.

“Having MS can completely change your life. Justin is a real inspiration, it is lovely to see him doing so well and hopefully it will encourage others with serious long term health conditions to take on a challenge. I wish the team lots of luck with the ride.”
