Nick’s Good Luck Message to Team Wales

Nick_RamsayMonmouth Assembly Member Nick is sending his best wishes to the 233 Welsh athletes who will be representing Wales at the forthcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games in which athletes will compete in 17 sports from July 23rd to August 4th.

Among them are Lewis Oliva from Chepstow and husband and wife team Mike and Sarah Wixey from Abergavenny.

Lewis has risen through the ranks of British Cycling’s Olympic Development and Academy Programme and won his first medals at world cup level in the final round of the 2013/14 series, where he came home from Guadalajara with two bronze medals from the team sprint and the keirin.

Mike Wixey will be travelling to his fourth Commonwealth Games to compete in the Men’s Olympic Trap (Shotgun), having won a bronze medal in the team event in Manchester 2002. Glasgow 2014 will be his wife Sarah’s second Commonwealth Games – she competed in Melbourne 2006 before spending five years away from the sport to concentrate on her family.

Wishing them good luck, Nick said: “Team Wales is made up of dedicated world class athletes who put in an enormous amount of effort to reach the top in their own particular sports.

“It would be great if they could equal or better their previous medal tally of 19 from the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth  Games – I look forward to following their progress and wish them every success.”
