Ospreys claim invaluable bonus point

Leinster 20 – 16 Ospreys

The Ospreys gave it their best shot but they came up short against Leinster who kept fortress RDS intact again by scraping home narrowly in a keenly contested Magners League clash.

The Welsh region led 10-16 at the break but Leinster stepped up a gear in the second spell and completely shut out the Ospreys in the top of the table clash.

Aussie fly half Shaun Berne darted over for a try 11 minutes into the second spell and with Fergus McFadden adding the conversion and a penalty the home side managed to continue their domination over the Ospreys having won their last five games against Ospreys prior to the clash.

You have to go back to 6 March 2005 to when the Ospreys last won on Irish soil. After a solid first half the Ospreys would have been disappointed not to be further ahead at the break having taken the game to Leinster.

The Ospreys quick passing and off loading in the tackle kept the ball alive which continually kept Leinster guessing but the visitors were unable to convert their possession into points.

Leinster have now won their last 14 home games at the RDS in the Magners League since Munster won there, 19-0, on 28 September 2008.

The victory puts Leinster seven points clear at the top of the table but the losing bonus point could prove invaluable for the Ospreys as the race hots up for the play-off places.
