Parents urged to caution children on dangers of ice

Wrexham Council’s Environment Department are asking parents to make their children aware of the dangers of ice as the Christmas holidays look set to remain cold and frosty.

Several of the county’s parks have large areas of water which inevitably freeze over when temperatures drop. Younger people rarely see the dangers of walking, sliding or jumping on ice and may find themselves in danger if allowed to do so.

David Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said:

“It’s very tempting for young people to go on to frozen water and with the Christmas holidays giving them plenty of opportunity to visit our parks we are asking parents to caution them against doing it. We want everyone to enjoy our country parks and have a pleasant and safe christmas break”
