Ahead of the publication of the Reforming Local Government white paper, the Party of Wales spokesperson on Local Government Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:
“It has become clear that the exact status quo is no longer an option. But voluntary mergers would be a piecemeal approach, rather than the full scale reform of public services that we need.
“Plaid Cymru has said that we will have a comprehensive policy in our 2016 manifesto on how different services can best be delivered, and this will include how many regional or local authorities we have. We welcome the government’s admission that the main reform programme would happen after 2016, but we remain concerned about any attempts to rush through ad hoc change ahead of that time.”
