Plans Unveiled for Neath Port Talbot Waterfront

Local residents in Neath Port Talbot will have the chance to give their views on a regeneration plan that will shape the future of the waterfront in Neath Port Talbot.

Neath Port Talbot Council has drawn up an overall plan for the physical and economic development of the coastal corridor from Margam in the east to Fabian Way in the west. The area is made up of residential, industrial, commercial and leisure zones.

Margam, Taibach, Port Talbot town centre, Aberavon, Sandfields, Baglan, Skewen, Briton Ferry and Fabian Way all lie within the waterfront area.

The consultation will be launched on 26th October when the draft plan will be unveiled. An exhibition will be held at Port Talbot Civic Centre and Briton Ferry Library until 9th November where the public can come along and view the plans and give feedback on the proposals. The exhibition will also give details on the plans for the future redevelopment of the Brunel Dock area.

All consultation material, the full Waterfront strategy document and feedback forms will be available on the Council’s website www.npt.gov.uk/regeneration until 23rd November.

All feedback will be considered and a final plan will be presented to councillors in December.

Once adopted, the plan will act as a catalyst to draw in grants and private investment into the county borough to take forward the regeneration programme.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Ali Thomas, said, “The plan includes some major regeneration projects that will create jobs, boost the local economy and make a huge improvement to the environment of the waterfront area.

“It will provide a strong commercial heart to the county borough and pave the way for a new era of prosperity in Neath Port Talbot.

“We want to gauge public opinion on the plans so I would encourage everyone to come along and give us their views.

“The recent good news for the go ahead for the final phase of the PDR road (Harbour Way)will kickstart the regeneration programme by opening up development opportunities along the waterfront area, in particular, Harbourside and Port Talbot town centre.
