THE volunteer crew at Rhyl RNLI lifeboat station held their Open day on Sunday, August 30 and despite the poor weather, had a very successful day with crowds around the boathouse all day.
The displays in the boathouse attracted people to see the work of the RNLI, also to see displays by birds of Prey and Rhyl History club. Face painters were kept busy all day, as was the refreshments area staffed by the crews’ partners.
Outside the boathouse were static displays by the Coastguard, Fire, Police and Ambulance services, also the local Honda Goldwing Motorcycle club, together with the Rhyl Lifeboat Fundraisers. Highlights of the day were air displays by the Army’s Red devils parachute team and a World war 2 Spitfire, piloted by local man Anthony Hodgson.
During the day, there were 2 presentations. The first was by Swims swimming school, who presented a cheque to the station for nearly £1700, a result of a recent sponsored swim at Pontins, Prestatyn. Coxswain Peter Robinson of the Rhyl RNLI was also presented with his 20 years’ long service badge by the leader of the Red Devils after their display.
Peter says “ I was very surprised to be presented with my badge in this way, and feel pleased and honoured to get this award”
