Round Up: Principality Premiership

It’s tight at the top of the Principality Premiership with Swansea, Aberavon and Neath filling the highest positions thanks to their unbeaten start so far this season.

Rising Ospreys star Gareth Owen showed he has the potential to fill the midfield vacancy left by Gavin Henson as he displayed all his talents to help Swansea hammer Bedwas 58-26.

The Wales Under 20 and Sevens cap, who missed last summer’s tour to North America through injury, turned in a virtuoso performance as he scored two tries, and 26 points, in the All Whites’ 58-26 triumph.
Owen was wearing the No 10 jersey but, like Henson, he is equally at home at centre and full back.

Wales sevens world cup winner Tom Isaacs also chipped in with two tries to keep Swansea on top of the table with three bonus point victories.

Reigning champions Cardiff had a late try from former Wales wing Craig Morgan to thank for their 20-15 win at Glamorgan Wanderers, while Ebbw Vale slumped to their third successive defeat, going down 22-13 at Newport.

A last gasp, length of the field try from Ioan Cunningham helped Carmarthen Quins snatch a losing bonus point against Neath, losing 25-22 at home, while there was another away win for Aberavon, 35-27 at Cross Keys.

Meanwhile, Cardiff Blues outside half Dai Flanagan kicked 16 points for Pontypridd in their 48-15 win at Pontypool.

Llanelli won the closest contest of the day by just two points. Luke Richards kicked four penalties in their 12-10 home win over Llandovery. It means they sit in fifth place while Llandovery are still seeking out their first win of the campaign. Three defeats on the spin mean they sit one from the bottom of the division, sandwiched in between Pontypool and Ebbw Vale with the losing bonus point they earned on Saturday keeping them off rock bottom.
