Round Up: SWALEC League Division One

UWIC still have some work to do if they want to be crowned champions of Division One East, after both themselves and closest challengers Llanharan claimed bonus poin victories on Saturday.

The students scored seven tries as they mauled Rumney 56-26. And there were seven different try scorers, as Simon Humberstone, Aled Jenkins,, Richard De Carpentier, Dan Biddy, Will Rees-Hole, Alex Porter and Rhys Roberts all crossed.

Llanharan had to work a little harder for maximum points against Beddau. Tries by full-back Elliot Foiles, centre Guy Atkins and wings Paul Adams and Lee Thorne helped them to a 24-10 victory.

Bargoed are still not out of it after they smashed lowly Ystrad Rhondda 67-19. Brothers Rhys and Darren Humphries were among the try scorers for the home side.

Tredegar can sleep a little easier after they took another step towards safety with a 38-17 victory over Newbridge. Daniel Ford crossed for a brace and Wes Cunliffe, Matthew Jolly and Jack Dawson also scored tries as they sealed a vital bonus point.

Elsewhere, Caerphilly are as good as down after crashing 38-28 at home to Merthyr and Blackwood beat Bedlinog 35-19.

Champions Tonmawr were pushed hard for an 18th victory of the season at battling Carmarthen Athletic. Mike Catris, Gareth John, Dane Roberts and Elliot John touched down as they scraped home, 31-26.

Bonymaen produced a special performance to smash rivals Corus and put themselves in with a chance of securing second place. A wonderful hat-trick by wing Christopher Hopp set them on their way to a 47-14 victory.

There was also a shock defeat for the current holders of second place, Whitland, at lowly Bridgend. Tries by wings Grant Epton and Alan Purcell, plus one by scrum-half Tom Grabham helped Bridgend ease their relegation worries with a 31-16 triumph.

Builth Wells still fancy their chances of survival after a fine 33-25 win at Narberth. Ben Duggan, Huw Thomas, Geraint Jones and John Thurston ass crossed for Builth.

Elsewhere Cwmllynfell went down 25-20 at Feilinfoel and Llangenneth beat Bridgend 30-24.
