Round Up: SWALEC League Division One

Llangenneth have surged up the SWALEC Division One West TABEL after a shock win against third placed Camarthen Athletic in a 42-20 win.

Club President Richard Phillips was thrilled with his club’s triumph, and said: “It was a superb win for the boys, we’ve now won our last four games including two away.”

Tries came through wing Mike Davies who grabbed two tries, fullback Elis Phillips, scrumhalf Rhys Lane and No 8 Ed Siggery. Outside half added a further 15 points with the boot and replacement flyhalf Dan Edridge struck the final conversion in a bonus point win. Mr Phillips, said: “The club is absolutely buzzing at the moment… there are a lot of youth boys in the team this year and we’re just starting to gel, it was a fantastic result for us.”

Whitland however stay top of the division after recording a 20-13 win against Feninfoel. Centre Aled Jones and hooker Mark Jones touched down for the home side while Felinfoel’s sole try came through scrumhalf Luke Marsh.

Meanwhile Builth Wells continue in their hunt for their first win of the season after being the victim of a 42 -10 hammering at the hands of Corus.

In Division One East, UWIC scraped to a 19-15 win at Bedlinog and as a result cling on the top spot. UWIC’s Josh Leach scored the games only try while flyhalf Simon Hamberstone kicked 14 points. The boot of Hamberstone’s opposite number Ben Grzesica kept Bedlinog in the game with a 15 point haul and the home side could have snatched a last minute win but blundered a clear try-scoring opportunity.

Bargoed keep up the pressure on the men from UWIC after beating third placed Newbidge 22-9 at home but missed out on a bonus point. Their three tries were scored by wing Lewis Prothers and scrumhalf Mike Roberts while the referee awarded the third.

In a basement battle Caerphilly edged out Beddau in a nail-biting 19 -17 away win. Dean Watkins was the hero for Caerphilly after kicking 14 points while Ceirion Thomas crossed for his sides only try.
