Scarlets back RNLI campaign – you can too

Scarlets(2)The Scarlets today kick-started an appeal to encourage the people of Wales to get involved with RNLI SOS day 2010 – the charity’s annual fundraising day. Supporters are being invited to take inspiration from the SOS acronym and host events from ‘Sing One Song’ to ‘Sip Our Soup’ or ‘Slim Our Selves’  to raise funds on 29 January, 2010.

The rugby stars are getting involved by hosting a ‘See Our Scarlets’ competition, offering local children the opportunity to meet them and watch them train. School children in Carmarthenshire will this month be invited to take part in a colouring competition to bid for their chance of winning. Two budding artists from each school will scoop the top prize, which will also included a VIP guided tour of the stadium.

Spencer Davies, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager at Burry Port RNLI Lifeboat Station said: “The RNLI volunteer crew at Burry Port are thrilled that the Scarlets have agreed to come aboard with RNLI SOS day. We hope that people follow in their footsteps and brighten up their January by supporting our annual fundraising day.

‘As a charity, the RNLI relies entirely on voluntary contributions and legacies for income, so by getting involved you will be helping our crews to continue rescuing 21 people every single day.’

Scarlets Commercial Director Rupert Moon, says: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming the winning youngster to the stadium in the New Year. The Scarlets are only too keen to show their support to the men and women around the Welsh coast who are ready to drop everything when the call for help comes. RNLI volunteers really are extraordinary people who are on call 24/7 and willing to rescue total strangers, I hope the people of Wales now come together and answer their SOS on January 29, 2010.”
