Signs of economic recovery as First Minister opens new Giles Headquarters

There were further signs of an upturn in the economy when First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, officially opened the new Welsh Headquarters of Giles Insurance Brokers at Talbot Green.

The opening follows the release of official figures on Tuesday (26th January) which shows the UK has moved out of a recession.

Giles Insurance Brokers, originally founded in Glasgow, employ 84 people in Wales and have invested over £14 million in Welsh acquisitions since 2007.

Mr Jones said:

“Given the economic climate we have been experiencing, it’s hugely encouraging to meet with business leaders who are planning for expansion and have a workable strategy in place to capitalise on the upturn.

“Throughout the economic downturn we have been taking steps to ensure that Wales is well positioned to take advantage of the upturn. Tuesday’s figures are an encouraging step on the road to recovery, but we understand that there are still challenges ahead. We continue to be on hand to offer support and advice to businesses in Wales through our tailor-made initiatives, such as Flexible Support for Business.

“Giles is an important business for Wales and I am delighted to see their confidence in the Llantrisant team and commitment to expanding the business further. They are a perfect example of what other businesses in Wales can achieve. I wish them every success in their new building and in future endeavours.”
