Smokebugs’ roadshows to visit Denbighshire schools

During September and October the Smokebugs roadshow will be visiting some of Denbighshire’s primary schools, to encourage children never to take up smoking.

The roadshow is a novel learning opportunity for pupils in years 3 to 6 and features a magician, a fire safety officer and a health practitioner who deliver a one hour fun and interactive session about the dangers of smoking.

The aim of the roadshow is to recruit new members to the Smokebugs Club. Smokebugs! is an initiative of the Welsh Assembly Government to support young people in staying smoke free in Wales. It is a club that children aged 8 – 11 can join.

This group is targeted as it is linked to evidence around the age of first experimentation with tobacco. When children submit an application to join the Smokebugs! club they receive a membership certificate, membership card, Smokebugs! goodies such as pens, bugs, t-shirts, stickers etc and a newsletter four times a year. All resources are sent directly to the pupil’s home.
