Soccer star supports anti-bullying pilot

Wrexham FC’s manager Dean Saunders has joined forces with Denbighshire’s Children and Young People’s Partnership, North Wales Police and the Denbighshire Community Safety Partnership on a pilot initiative to stamp out bullying.

The event, being held at the Royal International Pavilion, Llangollen on Friday, September 18th at 9.30am will be attended by the new intake of secondary pupils at Ysgol Dinas Bran, Llangollen.

Dean Saunders has recorded a anti-bullying video message which will be broadcast to the pupils at the event.

Key speakers during the day will discuss a whole range of issues, such as cyber / text bullying, sexual bullying, Choose Life project (which looks at peer pressure issues relating to drink and drugs), as well as a session on Ysgol Dinas Bran’s anti-bullying policy.

Angela Delaney of Denbighshire’s Children and Young People’s Partnership, said: “We are delighted that Dean Saunders and Wrexham FC are supporting this pilot initiative and getting involved in our efforts to tackle issues around bullying.

“We are anxious to send out a clear message to all pupils that any kind of bullying simply will not be tolerated and that there is a lot of support out there for any individuals that are being bullied.

“Keeping children and young people safe at home, at school and in the community is one of the Partnership’s priorities. We are working with agencies in all sectors to focus on stamping out bullying”.’

PC Alyn Smith from the Denbighshire Community Safety Partnership, said: “Bullying ruins peoples lives and can affect them for a very long time afterwards. The day will explore all kinds of bullying as well as diversity and I hope the young people who attend will not only enjoy the day but take something away from it.”

“The event is also testament to the success of partnership working in Denbighshire.”
