Sweeney boots Blues to victory

Cardiff Blues moved into third place in the Magners League thanks to a 70 meter breakaway try from Tom James and 21 points from the boot of Ceri Sweeney as they beat Glasgow Warriors 26-15 at a rainsoaked Firhill Arena.

Despite Sweeney’s seven successes from nine kicks at goal, and James’ turbo charge run to claim the only try of the game, the Blues were 12-11 adrift at the interval after giving home outside half Duncan Weir four penalty shots.

He landed all four, one from the half-way line, and then added another in the second half. It was nip and tuck for almost an hour and the Blues took the lead for the fourth time when Sweeney made it 17-15 after 48 minutes with his fourth penalty.

The introduction of Xavier Rush and Deiniol Jones soon after allowed the Blues to take a firm grip on proceedings and go on to clinch their third away league win and make it three wins in a row.

Moving to 41 points the Blues are now the highest placed Welsh region in the league and strong candidates to push for a Play-Off place as the race for the Magners League Grand Final hots-up.
