Take the Plunge into dance

Dance is all the rage on TV at the moment. But nothing you will have seen on the box will compare with the fabulous young dancers in Plunge, which visits Theatr Mwldan on 13th April, 7.30pm.

In 2009, after more than 25 years, Wales’ national dance company changed its name from Diversions to National Dance Company Wales. Now the award-winning Company is really proud to be presenting Plunge for the second year, a tour of South Wales by young professional dancers.  Plunge is a thrilling and bold performance, an evening of beautiful, theatrical and spellbinding dance.

Co-directors Roy Campbell-Moore, Artistic Associate of National Dance Company Wales, and former Company dancer Phil Williams have been working with six of the UK’s most talented young dancers to produce a razor-sharp, lyrical and entertaining double-bill.

Upclose and Personal is a fresh interpretation of Campbell-Moore’s elegant work from National Dance Company Wales’ repertoire and is set to the captivating melodies of Mozart’s Piano Quartet K493, described by Einstein as ‘the purest, most childlike and godlike melody ever sung’. Cast under intimate photographic portraits and with the fine couture costumes created by fashion designer, Paul Shriek, Up Close And Personal contrasts the passionate movement of contemporary dance with the classical music of Mozart. Choreographed by Roy Campbell-Moore, NDCWales’s Artistic Associate and Founding Artistic Director, it was previously performed by the company in 2007 and explores what was going through the young composer’s head when he penned his music will provide a sumptuous visual feast.

Embark is an exciting new work created especially to showcase the creative and performance talent of the dancers. Emotionally driven and highly charged, this production will take its audience on a moving and unforgettable journey through a resurrected past, as dancers fly, swoop and dive in a furious flood of dance. Created by Welsh choreographer, Phil Williams, the dance is set to a haunting original score by the composer, Benjamin Talbot.

Tickets for this stunning double bill of dance are £14 (£13 concessions) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, or book online at www.mwldan.co.uk. A workshop is also being offered by the company for £6 (£5 concessions) per person, and will take place on Tuesday 12th April, the day prior to the performance.
