Thousands enjoy free festive events

Hundreds of people braved the cold to enjoy the last two festive events in Rhondda Cynon Taf’s winter programme, at Ferndale and Llantrisant.

Santa and his reindeer arrived in Ferndale on a bitterly cold night for the town’s free festivities, when dancers from the Bell Centre entertained the crowds who gathered around Maxwell Street.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Cllr Simon Lloyd, who attended, said: “Thanks to everyone who came along to enjoy the event, which was moved to Maxwell Street this year due to the work going on to regenerate Ferndale town centre.

“A big thanks, too, to our Streetcare team who came out to make sure pavements were safe on a very cold and icy night, and to our Events and Town Centres teams for organising all our successful Christmas festivities this year.”

Children from Llantrisant Primary School made colourful lanterns which they carried in the parade as part of the town’s annual Christmas celebrations. The town also hosted a Christmas Market, Santa’s grotto, street entertainers on Castle Green and carols in the Bullring.

Thousands of people of all ages also enjoyed the free events held in November and December in Aberdare, Mountain Ash, Pontypridd, Porth, Treorchy and Tonyrefail.
