Tourism operators get Twitter tips

Newport Tourism Association recently held a training day looking at new media social networking at the Caerleon campus of the University of Wales, Newport.

It was aimed at showing local businesses, such as guest house owners and those operating attractions, how to promote themselves using sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Many people now use email and text message as their preferred methods of communication while using social networking websites for both personal and professional relationships.

Correctly used by businesses, these can be inexpensive ways of marketing products and services as well as communicating with customers.

Funding for the training was provided by the economic development section of Newport City Council and Capital Region Tourism.

Cathie Brown of Chapel Guest House, St Brides, Newport said: “Even though I’m a regular user of Facebook and Twitter, I still learnt new ways of using them which will benefit me both personally and in my business’
