A generous man has donated a trailer tent to help RSPCA’s Animal Centre in Newport raise much needed funds.
Norman Lawrence had put the trailer tent up for sale, but then reconsidered as he has a real love for animals and thought it would be a nice idea to donate it to the animal centre instead.
The trailer tent is in an extremely good condition and has hardly been used.
It is hoped that the sale of the tent will bring in much needed funds for the animals at the centre.
“I bought the tent trailer new but we have not used it for about three years,” said Mr Lawrence, who lives at St Brides, Newport.
“I thought why not donate it to my favourite charity. Anything for the animals. I thought the centre could auction it off so that the animals can benefit.
“It is in an excellent condition.”
Animal Centre Manager Debbie Caffull said they were delighted with the trailer tent which they believe is the biggest item they have ever been donated.
“We are over the moon that Mr Lawrence chose us,” said Debbie.
“We could see how passionate he was to help us raise money for animals in need.
“It is so thoughtful and generous.”
Mr Lawrence bought it in 2008 for £4,500, and centre staff are hoping to sell it for around £1,500.
“Any offers are welcome,” said Debbie.
“We have not put a closing date on it yet, we are just looking for offers.
“If we can get £1,000 – that is such a big amount for us that will go towards helping the animals.”
Newport Animal Centre looks after cats, dogs, rabbits and other domestic animals – and at any one time the centre is caring for over 100 animals.
In 2013 the centre rehomed 147 dogs, 257 cats, 52 rabbits and 43 other animals. The centre, based at Hartridge Farm Road, is open 11.30am to 4pm every day, but is closed on Thursdays.
Services the centre offers include animal adoption, dog training, microchipping, pet merchandise and pet welfare advice.
