Campaign Urges Welsh Shoppers to Support Independent Businesses

Small Business SatAssembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths is encouraging people from across the region to back a nationwide campaign supporting local independent traders.

The UK’s first Small Business Saturday will take place this weekend (7 December) and the Welsh Government is actively promoting the event through a social media campaign, highlighting the importance of shopping locally and supporting small businesses via the Business Wales service.

Small Business Saturday is taking place on one of the busiest shopping days of the year and all about encouraging everyone in the UK to support small businesses, both on the day and beyond.

In Wrexham an event is taking place at Queens Square between 9am and 3.30pm, showcasing a selection of local businesses and their produce. Further information can be found by downloading the Wrexham Says Hello app.

The Small Business Saturday Bus has also been travelling around Wales to help promote the cause and Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths joined other Assembly Members in Cardiff this week to lend their support to the campaign.

Commenting after the event, Ms Griffiths said:

“With Christmas almost upon us, this Saturday promises to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year so Small Business Saturday offers the perfect opportunity for consumers to support their local community and boost the local economy.”

“The success of small and medium enterprises is essential for communities throughout Wales and supporting business growth and development remains one of the Welsh Government’s key priorities.”

“The Business Wales website contains plenty of useful information for companies across the country and schemes such as the Economic Growth Fund and Jobs Growth Wales have helped boost the industry and Welsh economy.”

“Local organisations such as Wrexham Says Hello and Best of Wrexham also do a great job in helping promote businesses and their products throughout the local area.”
