GCSE and A Level art students at Bedwas High School showed off their creativity at a special art exhibition held at the school on Thursday 26th June.

The exhibition showcased the work students have created over the past two years for their assessed portfolios and highlighted the fantastic range of artistic talents possessed by Bedwas pupils.

There was a wide range of art on display, from delicate sketches of flowers, recreated album covers and intricate line drawings of famous magazine covers to large scale painted canvases of city skylines, hand crafted paper mâché skulls and colourful customised cricket bats.

Pupils were on hand to discuss their work and inspiration, as well as the sometimes unusual and complicated techniques used to create such a variety of designs.  Each piece has a special meaning and connection to the individual artist, and is based around a chosen theme.  Year 11 GCSE Art and Design pupil Joshua Tilley explained how his enjoyment of creating colourful drawings of everyday items had encouraged him to study art at a further level and hopefully pursue a creative career.

The event was well attended by parents and friends of the school, including Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly and Jeff Cuthbert AM, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty.  Year 10 catering students prepared a selection of fresh cakes for the occasion.

Cllr David Carter, Mayor of Caerphilly county borough said: “I’m always delighted to see the excellent work produced by pupils, it’s great that Bedwas High School has given teachers, parents and the public the opportunity to see the hard work these talented artists have put into their examination portfolios. I wish all the pupils the best in whatever they decide to do next.”
