Get Active Festival of Culture comes to Newbridge

The Get Active Festival of Culture is coming to Newbridge next week and residents from across the county borough are being encouraged to come along and join in the FREE festivities.

Last year hundreds of people took part in ‘Get Active’, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Education and Leisure campaign, which promotes healthy lifestyles to people living and working in the area.

The campaign proved very popular, with local residents flocking to various venues to get more culturally, educationally and physically active.

The Get Active Festival will take place at Newbridge Leisure Centre on Friday 11th September from 12pm until 6pm.

The fun will kick off with a samba parade to the new Calzaghe Bridge and back, followed by a question and answer session with Welsh rugby legend and author Scott Quinnell.

Newbridge School will also provide an hour of entertainment for all ages, featuring scenes from the musical drama Bugsy Malone, mini sagas from ‘The Adventure Starts Here’, solo songs and a performance of ‘All that Jazz’ by Newbridge School Brass Brand Ensemble.

On the day, the council will be on the look out for the next ‘Get Active’ family to take over the reign of the current family, the Carringtons, who have enjoyed many prizes in exchange for their commitment to getting physically, educationally and culturally active in 2008/09.
