Glyndwr University – Flagship Open Day

StudentsatGlyndwr1Glyndŵr University will Open its Doors to Hundreds of Prospective Students on August 16.

The North Wales University is to hold its flagship open day the Saturday after A-level results are announced and is expecting a record-breaking attendance.

The event follows the Wrexham institution’s 44-place rise up the Guardian University Guide 2015 league table, to number 64 in the UK.

It is Glyndŵr’s highest ever ranking since it gained university status in 2008, and places the institution among the top three in Wales.

The University was also joint seventh in the proposed Social Mobility Graduate Index, and number one in Wales for getting students from poorer backgrounds into jobs.

At the open day, lecturers and course leaders will be on hand to meet and discuss the degrees on offer.

Places are still available and new programmes (subject to validation) include Chemistry with Green Nanotechnology, Computer Game Development, Immersive Technology, Marketing and Consumer Psychology, and Global Business.

There are also two-year business fast-track degrees and a selection of ‘kick-start’ years, a further option for anyone whose grades were not what they had hoped for.

Visitors can also enjoy a tour of facilities, including the Centre for the Creative Industries, Techniquest, the Centenary Club, North Wales School of Art and Design and the performance car laboratories, as well as free transport to the Northop campus.

Glyndŵr University has unveiled its new-look structure ready for the upcoming academic year, and Julie Cowley, Head of Partnerships, Recruitment and Admissions, said the future looks bright for staff and students.

The £1,000 cash back scheme, the £200 ‘refer a friend’ campaign and integrated masters’ degrees in computing, art and design, and engineering are among the incentives on offer.

“This is a critical time for students, with many still undecided where they plan to study in September,” said Julie.

“Some will feel it’s too late but it isn’t, there is still time to apply and join us and find out about the many new and already successful programmes we have here.”

She added: “The open day is a great opportunity for anyone interested in studying at Glyndŵr University to visit the campus and see what we have to offer.

“Those people who are unsure where to go may change their minds when they take a look at the facilities and courses we are introducing – places are still available and we look forward to meeting our students of the future.”

Organiser Andy Cairns said the August event is always popular as it gives prospective students and those who have already signed up a taste of what they can experience at Glyndŵr.

“It’s also a chance to meet lecturers  and staff who can talk them through  what to expect if they join us this  September,” he said.

“Choosing a university and a course is one of the most important decisions they will ever make, so taking the time to come along and see what we do is important.”
