Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has paid tribute to David Wyn Davies of Machynlleth who died on Sunday morning.

“I knew David Wyn Davies for over thirty years. We served as colleagues on Montgomeryshire District Council in the 1980s and became friends, and remained so until he passed away this week. He had the town of Machynlleth in his heart and always argued fiercely, reasonably and wisely in his town’s interests.

“No-one knew Machynlleth better than Dai Wyn, after a lifetime of study and writing about its history. In one hundred years’ time, people interested in the history of Machynlleth will be reading the many books and pamphlets written by David Wyn Davies. He always sent me a complimentary signed copy whenever a new work was published.

“His friendship and wise counsel has been crucial to me in my work as an Assembly Member and MP. Before establishing an opinion on a matter relating to Machynlleth, I always needed to know what Dai Wyn thought first. We spent many hours discussing matters Machynlleth in the Bowling Club.

“Machynlleth has lost one of its most loyal and educated sons. The town will miss him.”
