New developments at Bro Ffestiniog Swimming Pool

The newly renovated Bro Ffestiniog Pool has opened its doors with a new look and new equipment, ready to welcome the public over the summer holidays.

Over the past few weeks, the pool has undergone some extensive renovation work carried out by Gwynedd Council’s Maintenance team. In a bid to entice more people to use the centre over the summer and attract new users, the centre now has a host of new features available to use, including an exciting new water inflatable.

Ahead of the pool’s re-opening, a competition was held for local school children to design a new sign for the pool’s entrance. The competition winner was 10-year-old Lowri Thomas, a pupil at Ysgol Tanygrisiau.

Pool Manager Paul Williams said:

“The staff have worked hard over the past two years to make the pool a part of community life in Blaenau, and we are very pleased with the results we have seen from working with local schools and clubs. The services have improved, and I would like to thank all the parents who have supported us during this period of change.

“Our aim over the next few years is to continue to develop our classes and swimming clubs and to continue to encourage local children to achieve their goals by ensuring they register with the Swim Gwynedd scheme.”

As a reward for their hard work and dedication, Paul invited members of the club and Lowri Thomas to the official opening of the new water inflatable earlier this week. Lowri was present to unveil her design.

Lowri said: “I was really proud and excited when I heard I had won. As a prize, I received art materials such as a sketch book and biros, and the school has also won free swimming lessons for a whole term. The water inflatable is a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to going back and playing on it again.”

Councillor Paul Thomas, who is the Healthy Gwynedd Cabinet Member and local member for the Bowydd & Rhiw ward in Blaenau added:

“I’m very pleased for Paul and grateful to staff for all their hard work in developing services at the pool. I hope these developments will encourage more people to use the facilities and make the most of the excellent services available. Attracting new members to take part in physical activities form a key part of the Council’s vision for Healthy Gwynedd.”

The new water inflatable is also available to hire for parties. For more information, contact the pool on 01766 831066 or e-mail [email protected].
