Raising the Flag to Mark International Day Against Homophobia

To mark International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) on Tuesday, May 17, Cardiff Council will be flying rainbow flags at City Hall, County Hall and Cardiff Castle.

IDAHO calls for respect and dignity for lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people and is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to stand up against homophobia.  The event first began in 2004 and is now celebrated across the world.

Ahead of the day, on Monday, May 16, Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman and Cardiff Council Chief Executive Jon House raised a rainbow flag at County Hall.

Rainbow flags are a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride.

Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman, said: “I am pleased that once again we will be flying rainbow flags at City Hall, County Hall and the Castle to mark IDAHO. This simple act shows our support for the lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender community.
