There are several reasons for the school closures – some relate to problems with heating/water pipes and the other issue is health and safety of pupils and teachers due to problems with snow and ice.

Also, the Council has confirmed that no school or college transport will operate on Friday due to the icy conditions., for health and safety reasons:

  • The Council is unable to guarantee that all school sites have been gritted and cleared of snow, and are therefore safely accessible for transport vehicles; Many of the routes operated are in the more rural areas, where roads are impassable;
  • Other routes in more urban areas take in housing estates and side roads, which larger vehicles are unable to negotiate due to ice and/or abandoned vehicles
  • Weather forecast is still not good for Thursday, with  forecasts predicting -8 degrees and icy conditions
  • Some transport providers are unable to acquire drivers to operate the routes due to the adverse weather

Further updates will be placed on the Council’s website: www.denbighshire.gov.uk
