Trade Mission to South Africa Coincides with WRU tour

Edwina Hart AMThe Welsh Government trade mission to South Africa next week – timed to coincide with the WRU summer tour – intends to make the most of the raised profile that Wales will enjoy during the two-test series.

It follows the strategy adopted last year when the trade mission to Japan led by Economy Minister Edwina Hart was linked to the WRU’s summer tour.

The Minister said: ”We worked closely with the Welsh Rugby Union to maximise the impact made by Wales in Japan during the latter part of their tour last June which worked well. Wales and South Africa share a passion for rugby and Welsh businesses can benefit from this common interest which links our two countries.

”South Africa offers opportunities for businesses working across the sectors and the mission will enable delegates to connect with like minded businesses in two of South African’s most developed cities. The visit has been designed to help companies either explore possibilities of exporting to South Africa or increase their exports.”

Eight Welsh companies are taking part in the mission (June 8 -15) which will visit Johannesburg and Durban. The companies represent a number of the key sectors in Wales, including ICT and Advanced Materials & Manufacturing.

The Welsh Government has been working closely with UKTI in Johannesburg, who will provide a comprehensive briefing for the Welsh companies on the opportunities in South Africa.

The Welsh Government has also linked up with Trade & Invest KwaZulu-Natal and the Durban Chamber of Commerce who will provide a market briefing on the KwaZulu-Natal region and has arranged a business reception to facilitate the companies linking up with potential business contacts and further raise the business profile of Wales.
