Warning to older people on rogue traders

Wednesday is Rogue Trader Day and trading standards officers in Neath Port Talbot have joined forces with meals on wheels to raise awareness amongst older people of the danger of unscrupulous traders knocking on doors.

“Research has shown that sometimes older people can be very vulnerable to their tactics and become victims of this crime,” says Council Leader, Ali Thomas.

“The Council, through the Strategy for Older People and Community Safety, are campaigning to get the message across to our vulnerable residents that they must be wary of so called traders knocking on their doors persuading them to part with their money.”

To remind older people on a daily basis that rogue traders prey on older people, tea towels have been produced with an awareness message printed on them and meals on wheels are helping to get the message to older people in their homes.

Councillor Thomas added, “One of the Council’s priorities is to ensure that Neath Port Talbot is a safer place to live and that residents can be confident going about their day to day lives in their communities.”
