Women in agriculture – new target audience for Farming Connect’s Agrisgôp programme

MENTER a Busnes is launching a new recruitment drive to encourage women across Wales to join Farming Connect’s Agrisgôp programme in order to develop their strengths and capitalise on the opportunities within farm businesses.

Agrisgôp is a fully subsidised action learning programme delivered by Menter a Busnes, which brings together farming families to discuss and take forward business ideas at a local level. The initiative is in direct response to the success of a Farming Connect Women in Agriculture forum held in Aberystwyth earlier this year and the first of a number of projects which Farming Connect plans to introduce specifically for women.

Head of Farming Connect Gary Douch said, “Feedback from the event demonstrated that all the participants who attended, regardless of their area of farming or geographical location appreciated the opportunity to network with fellow women in agriculture.

“It was clear that virtually all those who attended would welcome further opportunities to get together at either a local level or via the web and to tap into the various support services available through Farming Connect.

Menter a Busnes’ Head of Rural Development Programmes Eirwen Williams said, “I am confident that women involved in agriculture will welcome the opportunity to share and develop their ideas through Agrisgôp, since the nature of farming and rural communities can sometimes result in them feeling isolated.”

“Many farming families have already derived significant benefits from this programme, having had the encouragement and confidence to consider new or improved ways of running their farm businesses. We are now hoping to encourage as many women as possible to form a local Agrisgôp group or we can offer support and a trained leader to help them set up a new one.”

The Agrisgôp programme is open to both male and female farmers. For further information on setting up an Agrisgôp group phone Menter a Busnes on 01970 636565 or email [email protected]
