Aberavon RFC is a Welsh rugby union team founded in 1876. Their home ground is the Talbot Athletic Ground in Port Talbot.

Their nickname is The Wizards and small red wizards adorn the tops of the rugby posts at their ground. The origin of the name is not known for sure but many workers came to Port Talbot in the 19th century from the Carmarthen area, strongly associated with the legendary wizard Merlin. So many of them lived in one street that it was named 'Carmarthen Row'; Talbot Athletic Ground is built where Carmarthen Row used to be.

Aberavon RFC played in the Welsh Premier Division, in the 2004/2005 season.

I am researching my Grandfathers history and he was known to play rugby and lived in Aberavon. He was born in 1890 so the time I am looking at would be 1908 to 1914. He was Robert Richards and I would like to know if you keep team photos for that period please. I also have found a Robert Richards in the National Squad in 1910 - 1911 but cannot find where to look at team photos.

I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

    Regards,

    Bob Richards
