The Elan Valley is situated to the west of Rhayader, in mid Wales. The area is sometimes known as the "Welsh Lake District".
dominated by its impressive dam, this is one of several valleys in mid Wales where forestry and supply of what are important activities.
The valley contains the Elan Valley Reservoirs, as well as the only purpose built Arts and Crafts village in Wales (Elan Village) designed by a single architect Herbert Tudor Buckland. It is also famous for its scenery and being a training area for the SAS. It covers 70 square miles of lakes, wildlife, countryside and some areas of special scientific interest where surveys are used to monitor the wildlife. |
