Treharris is a village in the Welsh county borough of Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan.

The community was formed around Harris's Navigation Colliery, which begun excavations in 1878. The colliery and village were named after F. W. Harris and his Harris Navigation Steam Coal Company. Ownership transferred to the Ocean Coal Co. Ltd. in 1893 - so called because the pit supplied the coal for the transatlantic liners, including the Cunard Line. The pit became known as Deep Navigation Colliery and remained in production until 1991.

Today, Treharris has a population of 11,000 (2001 Census).

Intresting site but what about puting more infromation on it about the valleys such as Bedliong or Trelewis I'm sure there are more to these places then just Treharris such as Trelewis drifts and Taff Merthyr collery and the climbing center that now stands on the taff merthyr pitt. I find that these places get forgotton about by every-one and it is sad to think that in the future they could become the forgotten vallys of Merthyr Tdyfil.
